On Group Velocity of Elastic Waves, in an Anisotropic Plate
The equivalence of the energy velocity and the group velocity is often taught in university physics. An early proof of the equivalence of the two velocities for one-dimensional water waves was given by Rayleigh [1]. In the 1950s and 1960s many studies [2}4] were done to show the equivalence of the two velocities for more general systems. Later, in the 1990s, Awati and Howes raised a question as...
متن کاملA new absorbing layer for elastic waves
A new perfectly matched layer (PML) for the simulation of elastic waves in anisotropic media on an unbounded domain is constructed. Theoretical and numerical results, showing that the stability properties of the present layer are better than previously suggested layers, are presented. In addition, the layer can be formulated with fewer auxiliary variables than the split-field PML.
متن کاملParameter measurement of thin elastic layers using low-frequency multi-mode ultrasonic lamb waves
A low-frequency ultrasonic method presented in this paper is suitable for measuring any one of the four characteristic parameters, i.e., thickness, density, shear, and longitudinal wave velocities, of a thin elastic layer given the remaining three. Thickness of the thin layer is much smaller than the longitudinal wavelength of the ultrasonic wave used in the experiments. The method employs the ...
متن کاملDynamics of Love-Type Waves in Orthotropic Layer Under the Influence of Heterogeneity and Corrugation
The present problem deals with the propagation of Love-type surface waves in a bedded structure comprises of an inhomogeneous orthotropic layer and an elastic half-space. The upper boundary and the interface between two media are considered to be corrugated. An analytical method (separation of variables) is adapted to solve the second order PDEs, which governs the equations of motion. Equations...
متن کاملScattering of Elastic Waves by Inclusions with Thin Interface Layers
Elastic waves are scattered by an elastic inclusion. The interface between the inclusion and the surrounding material is imperfect: the discontinuity in the displacement (traction) vector across the interface is taken to be proportional to the average of the traction (displacement) vectors on the two sides of the interface. Uniqueness theorems are obtained, and boundary integral equations over ...
